Effective contact list management

Published in september, 13 of 2013

First of all, to start an e-mail maketing campaign you need to create an adequate base, that will contain relevant information about your customers. The more information your company collects the better, as this information can be later used to customize your online campaigns.

One of the most common and efficient method of obtaining information that you can later apply in your campaigns is: “fields usage” during the registration process. For example: It is quite common to see phrases like: "Sign up to receive our weekly newsletter" or "Sign up to receive great deals" and below a few basic fields to fill (usually requesting name, email and a few details). The question is: “Are my customers going to provide their information”? Well. It depends on a few things.

The ideal option is to create entry forms that can be easily accessed within the website. However, bear in mind, that long forms may just get ignored by your visitors. So try to keep your forms reasonably short and encourage your customers to fill them up. How to do it?

We suggest that you offer some benefits to your customers (but only after completing the entire form) and encourage them to fill up the fields. You can offer for example: discounts, free gifts, or even an e-book related to the company.

What if you asked your customers about their interests? Don't you think it would help you plan new marketing strategies. Moreover, you would be able to target the delivery of your campaigns to the adequate customers.

If you have direct contact with customers, you can simply ask them if they wish to receive more information about your product/service.

Ready! This is how you can create your contact base that only contains customers who are interested in receiving your publications. It's a hard job, and it can take a while to get a high number of entries ... but it's certainly worth the effort!
