Do you know what Phishing and Anti-Phising mean to marketers? Get to know more about this message that aims to acquire illegal data via email.

Phishing is a fraud method in which the perpetrator sends out legitimate-looking email in an attempt to gather personal and financial information from recipients. Therefore phishing is nothing more than a form of data theft (such as identity or banking information) and it's one of the threats that face Internet users, especially through emails.

It's quite easy to identify a phishing message as it always asks for a different kind of personal or financial/banking information, or contains a link to a fraudulent website that requests such information.

There are many email providers that offer anti-phishing option as part of their anti-spam filter technologies with the purpose of stopping illegal emails. Basically, what email providers aim to do is to analyze all incoming emails in order to detect fraudulent links or fake domains that have been created to steal user data.

How does a phishing email work and what is phishing scam?

Generally, this sort of emails usually contain a link that leads to a fake website of your bank, or other institution. Although the website is fake, it may look very realistic and it's very dangerous because it encourages email recipients to interact. People who create these sort of websites are very clever. They mostly use bank's logos, images so that the site looks trustful and recipients are not aware of the existing danger.

These phishing sites often encourage users to fill various fields with personal information such as: full name, password, bank details, Post Code, etc. Any data entered in these sites will help “data thieves” steal your identity and other information for illegal purposes.

Emails containing anti-spam and anti-phishing technologies always check for potential characteristics upon receiving an email.

The filters help to protect Internet users from receiving fraudulent emails and also reduce the possibility of more people being deceived by these illegal actions of data theft.
